Animals Available for Adoption

The FOSCAS Adoption Process:

Our adoption process is influenced by our philosophy just as our rescue efforts are. The key to our process is matching the human adopter with the dog that most compliments the adopter’s life and personality. It is our goal to place dogs in true forever homes. Adopting a dog is a lifetime commitment and many dogs can live for 15 or 20 years. For this reason we get to know the dogs in our care very well and we have a comprehensive application process that includes a written questionnaire, the checking of references and at our discretion a home visit for the purpose of getting to know the adopter sufficiently to assess whether the dog they desire is the right match for them.

It is most important that adopters not take this process for granted. It is in the adopter’s best interest as well as the dogs that there be a good match, so that both will be happy. A happy dog behaves well and will enrich your life. An unhappy dog can become destructive and can develop behavior and health issues potentially resulting in an unsuccessful adoption and thus a broken hearted dog and family!

A decline for adoption of a particular dog is not a value judgment of you. It is simply our assessment that the dog you may have an interest in is not the right match for you or that your current living situation is not appropriate for the dog that you may desire.

Dogs available for adoption will be vaccinated for Distemper/Parvo and Rabies prior to/upon adoption. Other vaccines that may be given include Leptospirosis and Bordatella. Dogs may also be tested for heartworm. All dogs adopted must be licensed upon adoption.

If for some reason the life circumstances of an adopter require an adopter to give up his adopted dog, he is obligated to return the dog to FOSCAS in order for us to re-home the dog. The original adopter if he desires, at our discretion may participate in the re-homing process.

Please see our available dogs if you are interested in adopting. You may find them on the link from this site to Petfinder or you may go to Petfinder.com directly and type in Watkins Glen in the location search tab. Friends of the Schuyler County Animal Shelter is the first organization that comes up. Please call us only for dogs under the “Friends of the Schuyler County Animal Shelter, Inc” and not the shelter itself. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please contact us either by email or by calling us at our offices at 607-562-8085. We will initiate the application process while arranging for you to visit with the dog of your preference.

Adoption Fees:
Adoption fees for spayed/neutered dogs will be $125.00. This includes the rabies and DHPP vaccines as well as the spay/neuter.
